When Dori Laub, psychiatrist and holocaust survivor, meets trauma victims, he does not give them pills, but listens and records their story. Laub developed this approach when he initiated the Holocaust Evidence Documentation Project in 1979 and laid the foundations for the pioneering evidence archive at Yale University with his partner, television producer Laurel Wolock.

During the film his personal world is revealed - his memories as a child in the concentration camps in Romania, his love for Johanna, the home of a former Nazi officer and his children listening to his testimony for the first time. The film follows Dori during the last four years of his life, and outlines his unique approach to listening through archive footage from dozens of testimonies he has led since the late seventies. Laub's committed listening and documenting approach was adopted by the 710 Witness project when the people of the project set out to listen and document the survivors of the Hamas massacre on 7.10.23
